Jordan’s King And Queen Working Visit To Italy

King Abdullah II  and Queen Rania arrived on Wednesday in Rome starting a two-day working visit.

On Wednesday His Majesty met with Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi. During a meeting in Rome, King Abdullah expressed Jordan’s severe condemnation to the terrorist attacks carried out by terrorist groups in the region and the world. In the evening, Their Majesties had a private dinner at the Casina Valadier Restaurant with the Prime Minister and his wife, Agnes Landini.

 
On day 2, Queen Rania received an Honorary Doctorate in “Science Development and International Cooperation” from Sapienza University. The Queen received the degree in recognition of her activities in promoting peace and cross-cultural dialogue and her efforts against religious and gender discriminations. The Queen addressed an audience of more than 300 scholars, students, and influencers. Her Majesty gave a speech which emphasized the need to unify against a common enemy of “irreligious terrorists whose sole aim is to destroy the civilized world.” She also said “This is the war of all nations. Because for the first time in history, the civilized world has a common enemy. ”

Later the Jordanian monarchs were received by Italian President, Sergio Mattarella and his daughter, Laura, at Quirinale Palace.  In evening, Their Majesties attended their last engagement in Italy, the MED 2015 Conference ”Mediterranean Dialogues”. The Prime Minister Matteo Renzi opened the Conference where different heads of states and representatives of 40 countries participated. King Abdullah II, who is the guest of honor this year, was keen to stress that terrorism “threatens the whole world” and against Isis “together we will rise or we fall together.” He also remembered the importance of the relation between Africa and Europa remembering that “for centuries, the people of the Middle East, Europe and North Africa have engaged with each other through trade”.
