New Decree Issued Regarding Titles of the Belgian Royals

  November 24, 2015 at 3:44 pm by

A new decree has been issued in Belgium regulating the titles of members of the royal family, superseding the decree issued in 1991 by King Baudouin.

Going forward, only children and grandchildren of the monarch and the heir to the throne will received the title Prince or Princess of Belgium. This means that King Philippe’s younger children – Princes Gabriel and Emmanuel and Princess Eleonore – will only be able to pass their titles on to their children, and that the children of Princess Astrid and Prince Laurent will be the last in those lines to hold the title.

All who presently hold the title of Prince or Princess will keep their style and title.
