The Countess of Wessex in New York City
The Countess of Wessex is currently on a visit to North America, where she stopped in New York City today before she heads on to Canada.
Her first visit was to the Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden in Hanover Square, where she laid a wreath during a service to mark Armistice Day. She then moved on to the 9/11 Memorial – Sophie paid her respects to the 3,000 people who lost their lives in the attack by placing a bouquet of flowers with a card reading “In memory of those who lost their lives so tragically. Sophie” on the plaques lining the parapets of the memorial pools.
The Countess was later given a tour of the 9/11 Memorial Museum, looking over the exhibitions on show that include pieces of steel from the World Trade Centre buildings, destroyed fire trucks and photographs of the victims.
In the evening, Sophie attended the 100 Women in Hedge Funds 14 annual New York gala at Cipriani Restaurant. She is the Global Ambassador of the organisation’s ‘Next Generation’ initiative.
