On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Norwegian Red Cross, the Crown Princess of Norway was today presented with a red ‘conversation bench’ in the Palace Park. The bench is one of 400 which are being placed around the country in public places, to encourage a warmer, closer society.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit was joined by Red Cross refugee guide Naghmeh Gorgin, herself a former refugee, for some tea on the bench where they discussed Ms Gorgin’s work in helping newly-arrived refugees.

“I am happy to see the commitment the Norwegian people have shown for the Syrian refugees,” the Crown Princess said to NRK after the event, before she headed to the Red Cross headquarters for a briefing with the organisation’s president, Sven Mollekleiv, regarding the current Syrian refugee crisis.

Mette-Marit has been patron of the Norwegian Red Cross since 2005.
