Duchess Donata of Oldenburg Has Passed Away

It was announced yesterday that Duchess Donata of Oldenburg, the mother of Prince Georg Friedrich of Prussia, has died after a long illness. She died on Saturday September 5.

According to the statement released by her family, the Duchess died at a hospital in Traunstein, aged 65. The nature of her illness was not disclosed.

Donata was born a Countess zu Castell-Rüdenhausen in June 1950, training as a nurse before she married Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia, heir to the headship of the House of Hohenzollern, in May 1975. They had two children, Prince Georg Friedrich and Princess Cornelie-Cécile, the latter of whom was born after her father’s death in 1977.

In 1991, the Duchess remarried, taking as her second husband Duke Friedrich August of Oldenburg, the ex-husband of he sister-in-law, Princess Marie Cécile.

She is survived by her husband, her two children and three grandchildren.
