Queen Sofia of Spain today presided over the fifteenth Senda Awards Ceremony at the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality in Madrid.

During the ceremony, the Queen was presented with the Senior Honour Award, for her four decades of work in the social and humanitarian fields, including assistance to the elderly.

The Senda Awards are awarded each year to individuals or organisations which have made “outstanding contributions for the benefit of seniors”.

Other awards were given in the categories of active ageing, nutrition, health and wellness, beauty, tourism and leisure. An individual award, Professional of the Year, was given to a social worker who has worked for her community for over fifty years.
