Danish Royals Celebrate 1915 Constitution Anniversary
Following on from last night’s concert, the Danish Royal Family was out in force to again mark the 100th anniversary of the 1915 Constitution.
The family attended a reception at Christiansborg Palace, hosted by the Danish Parliament. Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim, Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte chatted in the sunshine outside the main entrance to the building while waiting for Queen Margrethe to arrive.
Prime Minster Helle Thorning-Schmidt and the Parliamentary President, Mogens Lykketoft, greeted the monarch upon her arrival and the official party together welcomed a parade march of members of the Danish Women’s Society.
Queen Margrethe delivered a speech before going inside for the reception, in which she called the constitution change a “major achievement for the development of democracy in Denmark” and stated it was the “result of a long, hard struggle.”
