Queen Elizabeth II was joined by members of her family and around 8,000 guests as she hosted the first garden party of the year at Buckingham Palace this afternoon.

The Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester helped the Queen mingle with the guests in the Palace gardens on what was a sunny spring day. The Queen looked appropriately fresh in pale yellow, Camilla added a pop of colour in cornflower blue and Sophie went for neutral in a cream coat and dusty pink dress.

Among the guests were members of the Holocaust Memorial Trust, who had the chance to speak with the Queen herself. When congratulated on the birth of the latest addition to the family, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, the Queen smiled broadly and replied, “Yes, we love to have another girl.”

Buckingham Palace garden parties were first held during the reign of Queen Victoria, and have been held every summer in the years since.
