Queen Margrethe II today attended a commemoration to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Denmark from German forces in World War Two.

The Queen laid a wreath at the Mindelunden in Hellerup, which is the memorial to the Danish resistance fighters who died fighting against German occupation. Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt delivered a speech, while the Home Guard Music Corp Copenhagen and the choir from the N. Zahles School performed during the event.

Denmark was liberated on May 5, 1945 after the surrender of the Germany army the previous day.

Tomorrow, the Crown Prince Couple and Prince Joachim will also attend services to mark the anniversary.
