World Press Photo 2014 Award Presented By Prince Constantijn
Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands tonight presented the World Press Photo of the Year 2014 award at a ceremony at Amsterdam’s Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ. He was accompanied by his wife, Princess Laurentien.
The Prince, who is patron of World Press Photo, an organisation started in 1955 to support and promote worldwide photojournalism, presented the award to Danish photographer Mads Nissen for his photograph of a gay Russian couple.
The photograph was selected as the winner from almost 98,000 entries because the photograph is a statement that “love is a global issue over homosexuality alone”. The award comes with a monetary prize of 10,000€.
