Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel Visit South Korea
Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel arrived in Seoul earlier today for their three-day visit to South Korea.
The couple were welcomed at Incheon International Airport by the South Korean Foreign Minister’s Director General for European Affairs, Park Chul-min. Crown Princess Victoria and Mr Park inspected a traditional guard of honour.
It was then on to a visit to the Korean Demilitarised Zone in Panmunjom, the border between North and South Korea. Victoria and Daniel met with representatives from the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission (NNSC) which is in charge of regulating relations between the two countries.
They were told about the operations by the NNSC, as well as the contributions of Swedish partners. “A special feeling to be here,” Prince Daniel said while he and Victoria were shown around one of the buildings that lies in both countries. North Korean soldiers watched on and took photographs of the visitors through windows on the North Korean side of the building.
“On the whole, to be at this location is strange. Historical and yet so very topical. Then there is of course a major trauma for both countries and for the Korean people,” Crown Princess Victoria said to reporters during the visit.
In the evening, the Crown Princess Couple were guests at a dinner hosted by the Swedish Ambassador to South Korea, Lars Danielsson, and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in South Korea and Business Sweden. A number of speakers at the dinner spoke of Swedish business efforts in South Korea and the economic challenges in the country.
