Queen Elizabeth Hosts Wessex Birthday Reception

Queen Elizabeth II held a reception for the charities of the Earl and Countess of Wessex this evening at Buckingham Palace, to mark the couple’s 50th birthdays.

375 guests involved with the couple’s charities and patronages – staff, volunteers and representatives – attended the reception, which included speeches by the Earl and Countess. Between them, Edward and Sophie are involved with over 140 organisations.

A behind-the-scenes photo was published by the Duke of York on his official Facebook account just prior to the event, showing the Queen, Edward and Sophie in the private apartments.

Sophie turned fifty on January 20, while Edward celebrate the milestone last March.
