Nobel Peace Prize Awarded in Olso

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi in a ceremony at the Oslo City Hall this afternoon.

King Harald V, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit were on hand to congratulate the two laureates, at both the official ceremony and an audience at the Royal Palace prior.

Yousafzai was awarded the prize for her fight for girls’ rights to an education, while Satyarthi won thanks to his work to end the exploitation of children for financial gain. The pair were joined by their families at the event, where they proudly held up their awards after the presentation by Thorbjorn Jagland, the chairman of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee.

A banquet was held tonight in the laureates’ honour at the Grand Hotel, attended by the Royal Family.
