The Princess Royal Turns 64

On August 15, the Princess Royal celebrates her sixty fourth birthday.

Princess Anne was born on August 15, 1950 at Clarence House in London. She is the second eldest child and only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. She has three brothers: Charles, Prince of Wales (born in 1948), Prince Andrew, Duke of York (born in 1960) and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex (born in 1964). She was christened in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace on October 21, 1950. Her godparents were the Queen Mother, Princess Margarita of Greece and Denmark, Princess Alice of Battenburg, the Earl Mountbatten of Burma and the Honorable Andrew Elphinstone. Her full name is Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise.

Until 1963, Princess Anne was educated by a private tutor, before she moved to Benenden School, which she left with six GCE O-Levels and two A-Levels. In 1961, she was a bridesmaid at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Kent and in 1987, she became Princess Royal.

Princess Anne firstly married Captain Mark Phillips on November 14, 1973 at Westminster Abbey. They have two children, Peter Phillips (born in 1977) and Zara Tindall (née Phillips; born in 1981). They also have three grandchildren: Savannah and Isla Phillips, who were born in 2010 and 2012 to Peter Phillips and his wife Autumn, and Mia Tindall, who was born in 2014 to Zara Tindall and her husband Mike.

Princess Anne and Mark Phillips divorced in 1992, and she then married Timothy Lawrence that same year.
