Prince Michael of Kent’s 72nd Birthday
On July 4, Prince Michael of Kent celebrated his seventy second birthday.
Prince Michael of Kent was born at Coppins in Iver, Buckinghamshire, in England. He is the youngest son and child of Prince George, Duke of Kent and his wife, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark. Six weeks after his birth, his father died in a plane crash. He has two siblings: Prince Edward, Duke of Kent (born in 1935) and Princess Alexandra, The Hon. Lady Ogilvy (born in 1936).
He was christened on August 4, 1942 in the Private Chapel of Windsor Castle. His godparents were King George VI, Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands (although Prince Bernhard stood proxy), King Haakon VII of Norway, President Franklin Roosevelt, Lady Patricia Ramsay, the Dowager Marchioness of Milford Haven, the then-Hereditary Princess Frederica of Greece and Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester.
On June 30, 1978, Prince Michael married Baroness Marie-Christine von Reibnitz in a civil ceremony at the Rathaus in Vienna, Austria. The couple have two children together, Lord Frederick Windsor (born in 1979) and Lady Gabriella Windsor (born in 1981). In 2013, Lord Frederick’s wife Sophie Winkleman gave birth to Prince and Princess Michael’s first grandchild, Maud.Filed under British Royals
