The Duke of York’s 54th Birthday

On 19 February, Prince Andrew, Duke of York celebrated his 54th birthday.

Prince Andrew was born in the Belgian Suite of Buckingham Palace in 1960. He is the third child and second eldest son of the Queen and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh. He has three siblings; two brothers, Charles (born in 1948) and Edward (born in 1964), as well as a sister; Anne (born in 1950).

He was christened in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace on 8 April 1960. His godparents were Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, Princess Alexandra of Kent, Hugh FitzRoy, 11th Duke of Grafton, John Elphinstone, 17th Lord Elphinstone and Mrs Harold Phillips. His full name is Andrew Albert Christian Edward and he was named after his paternal grandfather, Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark.

On 23 July 1986, Prince Andrew married Sarah Ferguson at Westminster Abbey in London, England. However, their marriage was not to last and they divorced on 30 May 1996. Andrew and Sarah have two daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, born in 1988 and 1990 respectively.
