Swedish Princess Christina celebrates her 70th birthday on August 3rd.

The Princess is a sister of the current Swedish monarch, King Carl XVI Gustaf, and was born at the Haga Palace near Stockholm on August 3rd, 1943. Her parents were Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden, Duke of Västerbotten and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

In June 1974, she married Swedish commoner Tord Magnuson and as a result lost her style and title of Royal Highness and Princess of Sweden, and became Princess Christina, Mrs Magnuson. The couple have three sons.

Though Princess Christina is not in the Swedish line of succession, she is by far the most active of the King’s four sisters and attends a lot of court events. Most recently, Princess Christina and her husband attended the wedding of her niece, Princess Madeleine.
