Spain’s King and Queen visit Santiago de Compostela

Spain’s King and Queen paid a visit this afternoon to the city of Santiago de Compostela, following the horrific train crash on Wednesday evening which claimed over 80 lives.

Their Majesties paid a visit to the Hospital Clinic in Santiago where many of the injured are still being treated. The King, accompanied by Queen Sofia, later spoke to the assembled media.

Earlier the Royal Palace issued a statement offering the heartfelt condolences of the King and Royal Family to the families and friends of those who were killed. It was announced also that the Prince and Princess of Asturias will visit Santiago de Compostela on Friday.

    A very humane gesture both by the king and the queen. Besides his own health difficulties, His Majesty, the king, has made efforts to visit the injured.
