On Tuesday July 9th, Queen Maxima was in Leiden to visit “Best Buddies Netherlands”.

Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization where young people with intellectual disabilities are in a one-to-one relation together with young people without intellectual disabilities. The purpose of the foundation is to promote the social inclusion of young people with intellectual disabilities and youth without intellectual disabilities to encourage active citizenship.

Queen Maxima was received at the LAK Theater in Leiden, where she was informed about the development of Best Buddies in the last years.  This year, on May 16th, Best Buddies won the “Oranje Fonds Kroonappels” in the Youth category. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima are patrons of the Orange Fund.

Later the Queen visited another “Oranje Fonds Kroonappels”: “Stadstuin Emma’s Court, The Hague”. The city garden is an outdoor community center with more than 100 volunteers. The city garden is set up by the neighborhood itself. Queen Maxima toured the city garden with the help of volunteers and visitors who gave her informations about structure and functions of Emma’s Court.

The Queen was accompanied by the Deputy Mayor Mr. Boudewijn Revis. With the money won at the “Oranje Fonds Kroonappels”, the residents realized a refurbishing and a winter garden, a warehouse, a workshop and a toilet.

Wonderful fund, wonderful initiative and there will be wonderful fruits, no doubt.

  2. Lady Daphne says:

Queen Max is wearing the perfect dress for the occasion, but she should have her hair pulled back in a pony tail. Straggly hair is a no-no for a Queen.
