Willem-Alexander and Máxima Visit Denmark
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands yesterday paid a visit to Denmark, as part of their post-inauguration introductory tours.
The couple were greeted at Kastrup Airport by Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik, where the two monarchs inspected a guard of honour while their spouses were seen having a laugh between themselves (Queen Máxima and Prince Henrik continued with the jokes throughout the afternoon), before the group headed to Fredensborg Palace for a private lunch.
The lunch was also attended by Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, and saw baked salmon, roasted venison and salade mimosa feature on the menu.
In the afternoon, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima met with both the Danish Prime Minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, and the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Mogens Lykketoft. As they arrived at Christiansborg Palace (the Danish Parliament building), the new Queen was presented with a bouquet of flowers by two Dutch children.
For her trip to Denmark, Queen Máxima chose to wear a petrol-blue lace Dior dress, paired with a feathered headpiece. Queen Margrethe went for florals and fuschia, while Princess Marie stuck to solid red.
