Emir of Qatar To Abdicate?
Several local and foreign trusted news agencies, including Reuters, the Daily Telegraph and the Financial Times, are reporting that Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, is to announce that he will be giving up his powers in favour of his son, the current Crown Prince, Sheikh Tamim.
The reason for Sheikh Hamad to give up his powers is because of health problems. Also reportedly stepping down is the current Prime Minister, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani. More information and details are said to be announced by the end of the month and transition of power is said to take place in August.
Sheikh Tamim is the second son of Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned, the second wife of Qatar’s Emir. Sheikh Tamim completed his A-levels in the UK and in 1998 he graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
The Crown Prince has two wives. His first wife is his cousin, Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim al-Thani, and together they have four children. His second wife is Sheikha Anoud bint Mana Al-Hajri and together they have two children.Filed under Qatar Royals
