Six months later, on February 22, 1993 Prince Abdullah and Rania announced their engagement. Both families celebrated the Al Fatiha (engagement ceremony) at Rania’s parent’s house, and during the ceremony Abdullah gave to Rania a diamond ring.
The wedding took place on June 10, 1993 at Zahran Palace, the residence of the Queen Zein Al Sharaf. The wedding was attended by 2000 guests, among were members of other royal houses such as Queen Sofia of Spain, Crown Prince Mohammed of Morocco, Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum of Dubai and Sheikh Meshal Al Thani of Qatar.
