Marie-Chantal’s Wedding Gown Goes on Display

The Valentino couture wedding gown worn by Marie-Chantal Miller when she married Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece in July 1995 has gone on display in London, as part of an exhibition which “celebrates the life and work” of Valentino Garavani.

Valentino: Master of Couture premiered last night at the Embankment Galleries of Somerset House during a private VIP viewing, which was attended by King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie, Crown Princess Pavlos and Princess Maria Olympia of Greece, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie of York and their mother Sarah, along with a number of London’s high-flyers.

The York women all stuck to a neutral colour palette – black, navy and cream; as did the Greeks. Both Queen Anne-Marie and her eldest granddaughter chose black dresses for the event, while Marie-Chantal wore a beige shimmering cocktail dress. The two sets of royals each took the time to pose with the man of the hour, Valentino, during the private viewing.

Princess Marie-Chantal’s wedding gown, which took twenty-five of Valentino’s seamstresses to make, featured 12 kinds of lace and had a four and a half metre train, is one of approximately 130 gowns featured in the exhibition. It stands as one of the exhibition’s finale pieces. Other pieces include the dress Jacqueline Kennedy wore in 1968 when she wed Aristotle Onassis and the black and white gown Julia Roberts wore when she won her Best Actress Oscar in 2001.

The exhibition will run at Somerset House until March 3rd, 2013.
