Princess Madeleine Engaged to Chris O’Neill

The Swedish Royal Court has just announced the engagement of Princess Madeleine to Mr Christopher O’Neill.

Both King Carl XVI Gustaf and the Swedish government have given their consent for the marriage. The couple have been dating since the end of 2010.

In an interview with Princess Madeleine and Mr O’Neill posted on the Royal Court’s website, they reveal the engagement took place earlier in October, and that Mr O’Neill first asked the King’s permission to marry his daughter.

“The King and Queen were excited,” Mr O’Neill said, stating he is also learning the Swedish language. Princess Madeleine called her fiancé her “soul mate” and spoke of his warm and caring personality.

Three portraits of the engaged pair were released to mark the date: one, taken on October 22nd in New York by Patrick Demarchelier, and two taken yesterday at Drottningholm Palace by Ewa-Marie Rundquist. A biography of Mr O’Neill was also made available in Swedish (found here).

The wedding will take place in the summer of 2013.
