Luxembourg Royal Wedding Look-Back: Louis and Tessy
The final installment of our ‘Luxembourg Royal Wedding Look-Back’ focuses on the marriage of His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Luxembourg and Miss Tessy Antony in 2006. Previous blog entries in this series looked at the weddings of Charlotte and Felix, Jean and Joséphine-Charlotte, Henri and Maria Teresa and Marie-Astrid, Margaretha and Guillaume.
This couple’s relationship was first brought to public attention in September 2005, when the Grand Ducal Court announced that Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa were to become grandparents – their third son, Louis, was expecting a baby with his girlfriend, Tessy Antony. On March 12th the following year, Tessy gave birth to a baby boy named Gabriel in Geneva. On August 22nd, the Court confirmed that the couple were engaged to be married. Prince Louis would retain his royal title and style, but had decided to give up his rights of succession to the throne.
Louis and Tessy were married in a religious ceremony on September 29th, 2006 at the parish church in the town of Gilsdorf, in northern Luxembourg (a civil ceremony had taken placed prior at the Grand Ducal Palace). The bride arrived to the church on the arm of her father, wearing a strapless wedding gown made by Pronovias. A long tulle veil and opera gloves completed the ensemble. The guest list was kept to close family and friends of the bridal couple. Following the ceremony, Louis and Tessy posed outside of the church with their families – Grand Duchess Maria Teresa proudly showed off her young grandson.
Six years on, and Louis and Tessy now have two sons – their second son, Noah, was born in September 2007, just eight days before their first wedding anniversary. On June 23rd, 2009 – Luxembourg’s National Day – Tessy and the two boys were elevated to royal status by Grand Duke Henri. They each have the style ‘Royal Highness’, with Tessy a ‘Princess of Luxembourg’ and the two boys ‘Princes of Nassau’.Filed under Luxembourg Royals
