The daughter of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden, Princess Estelle, has been christened in a ceremony held at the Palace Chapel of the Royal Palace of Stockholm.

Guests began arriving to the Chapel at 11:00, local time. Over 400 attended the ceremony, including members of the Danish, Norwegian, Dutch, Belgian and Luxembourgian Royal Families. Also present were the partners of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine, Ms Sofia Hellqvist and Mr Chris O’Neill.

Princess Estelle’s godparents were announced shortly before the ceremony, the honour being given to Prince Carl Philip, the Prince of Orange, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and Mrs Anna Westling Söderström. It was also announced that the Princess would be receiving the Order of the Seraphim, the first royal infant to receive the Order at their christening since her grandfather, King Carl XVI Gustaf, at his own christening in 1946. A monogram and coat of arms were also released.

After a procession of royal guests – including Princess Madeleine of Sweden; Queen Margrethe II, Prince Henrik and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark; Princess Máxima of the Netherlands; Princess Märtha Louise and Mr Ari Behn of Norway; Crown Prince Philippe and Crown Princess Mathilde of Belgium, and Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg and Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy – the King and Queen of Sweden made their entrance to a royal fanfare, followed by the Crown Princess Couple with the christening child and the five godparents.

Little Estelle was decidedly well-behaved throughout the ceremony, only letting out a little whimper when Archbishop Anders Wejryd took her to the royal font for the official christening. The proud parents and godparents were then presented with christening certificates to mark the occasion. Before the close of the ceremony, King Carl Gustaf presented his granddaughter with the Order of the Seraphim, bestowing her with a miniature version of the Order’s light blue sash.

The immediate royal party exited the Chapel, before heading out to the front of the Palace to pose for the small crowd which had gathered to catch a glimpse of the future Queen.

A private reception is currently taking place at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.
