William and Kate support Team GB
Today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended our Greatest Team Rises – a black tie gala to raise funds to support British athletes and mark countdown to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The royal couple were greeted by Lord Moynihan, chairman of the British Olympic Association, before attending an evening reception.
Prince William gave a speech at the reception, with some uplifting words for the British athletes: “For the athletes of Our Greatest Team, these Games mark the pinnacle of your sporting careers. I can only imagine it – competing at home, in front of your countrymen and women, with the eyes of the entire world upon you. A dream come true.” He also cracked several jokes at his own expense, including likening his physique to that of a pigeon. Prince Harry didn’t fail to be mentioned as well, with Prince William mocking his younger brother’s claim to have beaten Usain Bolt – a victory (after false start) that had quite apparently popped up once or twice in the brothers’ conversation.
This was William’s first official engagement on behalf of the Team GB, but his wife had already carried out one engagement before when she visited a training session for the hockey teams. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as well as Prince Harry, have been appointed as Official Team GB and Paralympics Ambassadors since December of 2011.
While the main heroes of the night were undoubtedly the athletes, the Duchess of Cambridge won universal praise when she arrived looking spectacular in a teal dress with delicate lace details at the shoulders and back by one of her favourite designers – Jenny Packham. She matched the gown with Jimmy Choo sandals, a custom-made clutch and silver teardrop-shaped earrings. Her hair was styled in an elegant updo that showcased the beautiful details of her dress and the earrings.Filed under The United Kingdom
