Madrid – April 14th, 2012

His Majesty King Juan Carlos I has undergone surgery this morning following a fall in which he suffered a fracture in three fragments of his right hip. The 74-year-old monarch was on a private visit to Botswana; the Palace said the King’s fall in Botswana was “accidental” but gave no further details regarding his visit.

The King was taken to the San Jose Hospital in Madrid last night and had surgery on his hip this morning. The palace said: “King Juan Carlos had suffered a fracture of his right hip in three pieces. A reconstruction of the parts of the fracture was carried out and a hip implant was installed.”

This accident comes only days after the King’s eldest grandson, Don Felipe Juan de Marichalar, was admitted to hospital following a shooting accident in Soria, where he shot himself in the foot.

I would like to wish His Majesty King Juan Carlos speedy recovery, much health and a long life on the Spanish throne, as He is the only One who can keep the Spanish nation united and prosperous. I live in a different country, Romania, but King Carlos and Queen Sofia are great friends (and cousins) of our beloved King Michael, and this is one extra reason to love the Spanish Royal Family as well.
