Princess Laurentien involved in Literacy and Education
Princess Laurentien, as chairwoman of the High Level Expert Group on Literacy and UNESCO Special Envoy for Literacy, is often very interested about Literacy, Culture and Education. After returning from the Book Fair in China, attended other two events related to Literacy.
On September 06, Princess Laurentien has visited the International School at The Hague. The Princess was accompanied by Mrs Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth. Princess Laurentien has visited the Internation School to celebrate the 7th edition of Literacy Week, who started on September 5 until September 11. During the visit, the Princess and the Commissioner Vassiliou, have read and met students and teachers.
In the Literacy Week also take place the International Literacy Day: this year was celebrated world-wide on September 08.
Today, Princess Laurentien attended the delivery of the National Literacy Prizeat in the Hall of Knights at The Hague. The awards was also presented by the Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Mrs M. of Bijsterveldt-Vliegenthart.
In these week are organized various activities related to literacy and education. The Internationa Literacy Day was proclaimed by Unesco to bring attention to the importance of language, reading and writing.
