No, we’re not going to break into Billy Idol. But white weddings were the place-to-be for our Scandinavian royals yesterday, August 20th. In Denmark, Norway and Sweden, various members of the respective royal houses headed to the chapel to witness their friends say “I Do”.

Just east of the Danish city of Vejle, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended the wedding of Anders Kirk Johansen, the grandson of the founder of LEGO, and Anja Buchwald. The wedding was held at the Stouby Church, which was also attended by many well-knowns in Denmark, and brought out a larger media contingent. Princess Mary wore a purple, orange and cream paisley-printed evening gown, paired with her diamond and amethyst drop earrings.

Heading over to Norway, where Princess Märtha Louise and her husband, Ari Behn, attended the wedding of their friend and Norwegian television personality, Harald Rønneberg, to Sølvi Haugland at the Fredriksten Fortress in Halden. The duo were welcomed by Mr Rønneberg when they arrived at the 17th century fortress, before heading inside. The bride arrived a short while later with her father, to the tune of For Once In My Life.

And in Sweden, it was double the wedding, double the fun. Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, who announced their first pregnancy earlier this week, were naturally present at the marriage of Daniel’s sister, Anne Westling, to Mikael Söderström at the Gävle Concert House. The couple tied the knot in front of around twenty guests, including the Westling parents, Olle and Ewa, and the bride’s two daughters, Hedvig and Vera. After finger food and music, the newly married couple left the concert house in a vintage Ford, sent off by their families – Prince Daniel capturing his big sister’s big moment on his video camera.

Meanwhile, in Gottröra, what was dubbed the ‘Swedish society wedding of autumn’ also brought forth what could have been a incredibly awkward moment. Princess Madeleine was one of four bridesmaids at the wedding of her long-time friend Natalie Rosta and Dag Werner. Wearing a pastel pink strapless chiffon gown, the Princess was accompanied to the wedding by her boyfriend, Chris O’Neill, who walked the red carpet with another of Madeleine’s long-time friends, Emma Pernald (who is also the ex-girlfriend of Prince Carl Philip). Also among the guests was Princess Madeleine’s former fiancé, Jonas Bergström (Awkward Factor #1), who was joined by his current girlfriend, Stephanie af Klercker (who, as a past friend of Madeleine, provided Awkward Factor #2). Oh, to have been a fly on the wall at that reception…
