Official Visit to Ghana
Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and his wife Crown Princess are currently on an official visit to Ghana. The Crown Princely couple is accompanied by the Norwegian Minister of the Environment and International Development Erik Solheim.
During their visit the Crown Princely couple will visit joint projects between Ghana and Norway.
After arriving in Ghana the Norwegian Royals and the Minister were welcomed by the Vice President of Ghana – John Dramani Mahama. Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit both received traditional clothes – called kente clothes- as a gift.
During a working lunch with UN Country Team one of the key topics were Ghana’s efforts towards achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals.
Also it was talked about the fact that the rate of infection for HIV/AIDS is quite low in Ghana compared to other African states. The good work and efforts in this area were praised by the Crown Princess, who supports the fight against HIV/Aids.
Also the Crown Princely couple and the Minister attended the Ghana Summit 2011 – an annual conference bringing together international leaders in the oil and gas sector.
Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit also got the oppurtunity to meet with representatives of local and international organisations focused on various challenges.
In the evening a banquet was hosted by the Ghanaian Vice President.
