Crown Princess Maxima Back to Work
After spending the Christmas holiday in her homeland, Argentina, Princess Maxima has returned to her duties. Crown Princess Maxima was on Friday January 7 in Basel, Switzerland, for a meeting with representatives of international standardization organizations in the financial sector.
The participating organizations were the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the Committee on Payment and Settlement Systems, the Financial Action Task Force, the International Association of Deposit Insurance and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.
During the meeting, the attendees discussed how improved coordination can increase access to financial services in a safe manner. Inclusive Finance is the ‘access to financial services at a reasonable price and in a sustainable way, for anyone who needs it’.
The two chairpersons of the meeting, Princess Máxima and Mr Wellink, concluded that financial stability, integrity and an inclusive financial sector and will contribute to strong and healthy financial systems and economies. Other participants in the meeting were representatives of international organizations like the World Bank, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the International Finance Corporation, the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), G20 and the Financial Stability Institute.
The meeting took place at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel. Globally 2.7 billion people and millions of businesses do not use financial services as loans, bank and savings accounts and insurance.
