On Monday Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and the Prince of Orange attended the match between Denmark and the Netherlands in Johannesburg. Both princes were seated in the VIP box next to FIFA chairman Sepp Blatter. The match ended in a 2-0 victory for the Netherlands. The prince of Orange was dressed for the occasion with an orange tie and an Orange scarf.

In an interview to the NOS, the prince said that he will not be one of the 16 million coaches of his country and he refrained from giving any comments about the tactics of the Dutch team. He did say that his daughters are very excited about the tournament too and that they are collecting all kinds of orange memorabilia that the supermarkets are giving away for free. Since the prince will be attending the wedding of Sweden’s crown princess Victoria on saturday he will miss the next game of the Dutch team, but he is looking forward to seeing the match Cameroon-The Netherlands with his family in Wassenaar, next Thursday.

Yesterday the prince and princess of Asturias attended the match between Spain and Switzerland. Before the match the prince told the press that he was optimistic about the chances of Spain during the tournament and that he trusted that the team would work hard. The match however ended in a surprising 0-1 for Switzerland. As the winner of the last European Championships, Spain is generally regarded as one of the favourites of the tournament.

Tomorrow Britain’s princes William and Harry will attend the match between England and Algeria in Cape Town. The princes are on a six-day humanitarian tour through Southern Africa during which they will visit a number of charity projects close to their hearts in Botswana and Lesotho.
