Beatrix and Henri at the Reopening of Villa Vauban
Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands was in Luxembourg on May 1st, where she attended an event with Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa.
The trio reopened Villa Vauban after five years of renovations, and also opened the inaugural exhibition, entitled ‘The Golden Age Reloaded’, of the new museum.
The museum houses a large part of a collection from the Dutch Golden Age (17th century works), as well as a core collection of 18th and 19th century paintings collected by Luxembourg individuals.
‘The Golden Age Reloaded’ exhibition showcases paintings from both the Villa Vauban collection, as well as some paintings on loan from the Dutch National Museum. Some of the painters showcased include Frans Hals, Paulus Potter and Jacob van Ruisdael (from the DNM) and Jan Steen and David Teniers the Younger from Villa Vauban.
