Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit start their official tour of Finnmark in Kautokeino, northern Norway, 05 February 2008. The temperature hit below 25 degrees centigrade. The CP Couple was invited to have a little sledge tour. When the Crown Prince was to sit in the reindeer sledge in Ardni-siidaen, the reindeer was spooked and ran off so that the sledge fell over with the Crown Prince in it. The Crown Prince was fast on his feet again, running after the reindeer, trying to catch up.

On the 2nd day they visited Karasjok where they celebrated the Sami national day in Karasjok. The Crown Princely couple followed in the footsteps of King Harald and Queen Sonja (right), who also paid a visit to this region in 1969.

In honour of the visit the Royal House published a Sami version of their website.
